• 1) Insert item(s) and a chemical indicator strip into the open end of the sterilization pouch. 
• 2) Peel off paper strip located above perforation to expose adhesive and fold along perforation. 
• 3) Press firmly to seal the paper to the plastic making certain that the seal is secure by running fingers back and forth over the entire sealing area. 
• 4) Place the pouch in the sterilizer according to the sterilizer manufacturer's instructions. 
• 5) After sterilization, inspect the pouch to confirm the indicators have changed to the appropriate color and that the pouch is dry. 
• 6) Store processed pouches at room temperature in a clean, dry location. The shelf life of a properly processed pouch is event related and dependent upon proper handling and storage. Do not use pouches that become wet, damaged or opened. 
• 7) To open, pull apart the end seals at the thumb notch and then grasp the film with one hand and the paper with the other hand. Using a knuckle roll, carefully open the pouch by peeling down until the item(s) can be aseptically retrieved. 
• Note: For additional sterility assurance, a biological indicator (spore test) should be routinely used to verify sterilizer performance.
